Hot Dog Stand | Grand Blanc

The Grand Blanc drive-in, now called The Hot Dog Stand, still serves the best special Koegel hot dogs (more beef content) with steamed buns, secret red sauce and homemade root beer or root beer floats…still in frosty mugs!   11338 S Saginaw St, Grand Blanc

What is the history of the “Original Red Sauce’ served at the Hot Dog Stand?
My grandparent’s Ellsworth and Aileen Moore were involved in the A&W business when they came to Flint in 1935 and opened the city’s first A&W.  My grandfather was a finicky eater and had never cared for the taste of ketchup, so my grandmother came up with a homemade ketchup recipe better suited to his taste.  It has been used ever since in our restaurants. My grandfather and father in 1964 built the Hot Dog Stand in Grand Blanc that we currently operate.   Our family also had the A&W in downtown Flint, on Beech Street, that was in our family for over 50 years.  The A&W name may be gone, but our restaurant still uses the original recipe has been in our family businesses for the last 75 years.   The Hot Dog Stand is opened seasonally. – Rhonda Moore

Little Joes | Grand Blanc

Little Joe's Restaurant was born during the dark days of the Great Depression. Unable to find work, "Litte Joe" Dewey opened his first restaurant in July of 1935.  The original location was located in the lobby of the Grand Hotel, located at the corner of Grand Blanc Road and South Saginaw Street.  Joe moved the restaurant to the current location in 1936. It's been around for more than 70 years, the past 15 years under the ownership of the Abbott family.
