Calling All Singers

It’s time to mark your calendars for an exciting musical opportunity.  The 25th annual “Community Messiah Performance” is just around the corner.

Date:    Sunday, November 18
Time:    4:00 p.m.
Place:   Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Blanc

This year’s director is Sarah Stockton who is also the vocal music teacher at both Grand Blanc Middle School East and Grand Blanc High School. Ms. Stockton has selected the choruses to be performed and has scheduled two very important rehearsals – times and dates listed below.

Monday – October 29, - 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Wednesday – November 14, - 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

THERE IS NO AUDITION – however because there are some new choruses, a new director, and a new site, it is very important that all singers attend both rehearsals if they plan to participate in the performance. All rehearsals as well as the performance will be held in the sanctuary of Holy Family Catholic Church on Saginaw Street in Grand Blanc.

Come to  rehearsals with a bottle of water, a sharpened pencil, and your own copy of Händel’s “Messiah” (any edition will work).  Scroll down for other information AND a listing of the choruses.

A. Background Information:

“Messiah” tells a complete story of the Christian Messiah by using recitatives, arias, and a wealth of choruses. This year’s performance will include choruses, recitatives, and arias from all three parts.

B. Personnel:

Director:  Sarah Stockton – see above for more information
Organist:  Joseph D. Daniel.  This is Dr. Daniel’s third year with us.  He is the Organist Choirmaster at St. Matthew’s & St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church in Detroit.
Soprano:  Pia A. Broden Williams
Lyric Soprano:  Jennifer Curts
Alto:  Marcy Forsleff
Contralto:  Wynne Wood
Tenor:    Phil Guerra
Bass:  James Parks

C. Other Information:

•  On the day of the performance there will be a brief run-through to make certain we all will be on the same page at the same time.  This is not considered a rehearsal however and should not suffice for the two rehearsals scheduled 10/29 and 11/14.

•  As stated above, bring any edition of “Messiah” you have because attention to the correct page number issue will be addressed .  Copies of “Messiah” can be purchased online from Marshall Music or you might be able to borrow one from a local library or church.

•  The Internet site listed below will allow you to actually start to learn your part.  However, you will still need a hard copy of the score so you can sing along.

•  Appropriate dress for rehearsals is anything in which you feel comfortable.

•  Appropriate dress for performance will be discussed at the scheduled rehearsals.

•  Please bring a pencil, a full water bottle, and your copy of “Messiah” to each rehearsal.
